The compressor is one of the components with the highest impact in terms of energy consumption in the system and this study will show real data from a laboratory test, which demonstrates energy savings of the complete system up to 50% when using natural refrigerant. Cubigel Compressor® model NLT60FSN tested in this case study combines the use of R290 refrigerant with high efficiency mechanical kits and variable speed electrical motors, making it the optimum solution.
The use of R290 that do not destroy the ozone layer (GWP=3), and the energy saving coming from the improved COP of the compressor, reduces the CO2 emissions by more than 1.7 tons (in a period of time of 5 years) compared with a standard compressor, which is automatically transferred into a global environmental benefit only due to the fact of the lower energy requirements.
The above results confirm that the use of Natural Refrigerants combined with variable speed motors is the best solution to reduce energy consumption. The energy savings of a small Bottle Cooler can be very high if we take into account the enormous quantity of small plug-in cabinets that are running around the world.
